when PINTEREST meets my CLOSET

sometimes I'm scrolling Pinterest and an outfit catches my eye.

not because I want that outfit.

because I like the idea of it + of course, cute AF!

that's what happened here.

what caught my eye was the simplicity of the look: a solid base, topped with a shirt or lightweight outer layer. easy. no complicated formula. but the individual pieces had these subtle details that made the whole thing feel considered.

I loved the slightly higher crewneck on the ribbed tank. I loved the wider-leg tailored shorts. and the ballet flats were the perfect finishing touch.

it was simple, but it wasn't boring.

so I went into my own closet.

and, as always, I made it mine.

same idea. different wardrobe

I don't actually own that ribbed tank…which is kind of crazy because I own approximately eleventy billion tanks. 😂.

but I do have my favorite white linen tank, so that's where I started.

I also don't have those exact tailored shorts. I do own tailored shorts, but I just wasn't feeling them that day.

I was feeling my bubble skirt.

and that's where the outfit took a turn.

instead of the fitted proportions of the original, I went oversized. then oversized again. then oversized one more time.

the result was completely different from the Pinterest outfit, but the idea was still there: simple, monochrome base + easy outer layer + one interesting silhouette.

that's what I love about getting inspired by other people's clothes.

I don't need to own what they're wearing.

I just need to figure out what caught my eye in the first place.

sometimes it's a silhouette.

sometimes it's a proportion.

sometimes it's a color combination.

sometimes it's simply the formula.

then I go home » to my very own, very full closet and see what happens.

and that's where the fun starts.
